Marshalltown 3-pointers sink Southwestern

MARSHALLTOWN — A total of 16 Marshalltown 3-pointers doomed the Southwestern women’s basketball team in Sunday’s ICCAC league opener, 99-74. The Spartans took an early 11-10 lead, but the Tigers went on a 30-6 run to help build a 45-26 halftime lead. The deficit grew to as much as 82-47. “They shot the ball really well — they had a lot of 3-pointers,” said Southwestern coach Buck Scheel. “Going into the game, I knew it was going to be tough because they are so guard-oriented. We don’t have the numbers to play man-to-man and take away the 3-pointer.” Kim Wolfer led the Spartans (2-6 overall, 0-1 ICCAC) with 22 points while three other teammates were in double-figures. Six Marshalltown players were in double-figures Sunday, with Autumn Davis leading her team with 19 points off the bench. What also hurt the Spartans Sunday was turnovers. Southwestern committed 36 for the game — mostly in the half-court offense. “When you have that many turnovers, you’re not going to beat anybody,” said Scheel. “They converted at least 20 points off of our turnovers.” The Spartans look to break a five-game losing streak Tuesday when they host Grand View JV at 5:30 p.m. MARSHALLTOWN (99) — Autumn Davis 19, Catalina De la Quintana 15, Tonya Davis 14, Diamond Little 13, Channing Merchant 10, Lacee Bates 10, Allie Roberts 9, Megan Stanton 5, Tylene Bryant 4. Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
