Spartan women end five-game skid
The Southwestern women’s basketball team ended one streak and started another this weekend.
After falling into a five-game losing streak, the Spartans picked up wins over AIB Saturday and Graceland’s JV Sunday to improve to 4-6 overall on the season.
Against AIB, the Spartans collected a 67-48 victory. Anna Waymaster led the team with 17 points while Tiffany Troutwine added 11. Cortni Livengood led the team with 12 rebounds.
“The girls played well, but we came out and kind of struggled right away,” said Southwestern coach Buck Scheel. “We weren’t really into the game against AIB, but after a while, everything was good to go.”
In a 79-49 victory over Graceland’s JV Sunday, the Spartans led just 32-25 at halftime. But just six minutes into the second half, the Spartans opened up a 49-34 lead.
“I was somewhat nervous about this game because we just played a game the day before,” said Scheel. “But we came out and we opened it up in the second half.”
The Spartans shot 51 percent for the game, with CeCe Wright collecting a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists.
Southwestern (4-6 overall, 1-1 ICCAC) hosts Southeast Nebraska Sunday at 4 p.m.
