SWCC women lose third straight

The Southwestern women’s basketball team saw continued improvement Wednesday night, but it didn’t end up in the win column. Marshalltown’s Diamond Little had a career-high 26 points as the Tigers won their fifth straight game, 84-72. “It was better than the first meeting, but the biggest thing I was concerned about was turnovers and taking care of the ball,” said Southwestern coach Buck Scheel. “We had a lot of opportunities to really expand the lead, but we just couldn’t finish on the offensive end.” The Spartans lost to Marshalltown 99-74 on Dec. 2, and this time around, Southwestern held with the Tigers (11-4 overall, 3-2 ICCAC). The Spartans trailed just 40-37 at halftime, but 30 turnovers really hurt any chance of coming away with a win. Marshalltown also threw a zone at the Spartans, something that has been rare all season. “They threw a zone at us, which I wasn’t expecting,” said Scheel. “We haven’t seen a zone all year. Every team sees us with seven players and wants to go man.” Kim Wolfer led the Spartans with 19 points while Anna Waymaster added 16. Tiffany Troutwine was also in double-figures with 14 while CeCe Wright tallied 12. The Spartans (4-9 overall, 1-2 ICCAC) travel to 10-3 Iowa Lakes Saturday. The next home game for Southwestern is a Jan. 23 matchup with Iowa Central. MARSHALLTOWN (84) — Diamond Little 11 4-9 26, Channing Merchant 4 3-4 14, Megan Stanton 3 2-3 12, Catalina De la Quintana 2 4-5 8, Lacee Bates 3 1-2 7, Allie Roberts 2 0-0 6, Tonya Davis 2 1-2 5, Tylene Bryant 1 0-0 3, Autumn Davis 1 0-0 3. Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
