Southwestern victim of NIACC’s first league win

MASON CITY — The NIACC men’s basketball team gained its first conference victory Saturday, topping visiting Southwestern 64-52. NIACC was in the midst of a four-game losing streak and the win improved the Trojans to 9-11 overall and 1-4 in league play. Southwestern slipped to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in the league. “We didn’t show up to play,” said Spartan coach Jerry Drymon. “NIACC played really hard and executed what they wanted — slow the pace down and standing in a zone. We didn’t attack the zone well enough.” Anthony Davis led Southwestern with 16 points, but sat out much of the first half in foul trouble. Sophomore Greg Smalls led NIACC with 13 points. NIACC had 18 assists on its 25 field goals. The Spartans return to league play Wednesday at home against Iowa Central (8-9 overall, 1-2 in the ICCAC). Iowa Central lost to Iowa Lakes Saturday, 70-69. “We’re starting a pretty big stretch with seven games in two weeks, but it will be nice to finally have a league game at home,” Drymon said. Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
