SWCC splits

Southwestern teams split with Southeastern Community College over the weekend. The Spartan men raced past Southeastern at home, 107-73, with Tyler Raasch leading five players in double figures with 19 points. The Spartans improved to 3-4 in the conference and 13-8 overall. At Keokuk, Southeaster beat Southwestern, 77-67. Kim Wolfer led Southwestern with 20 points. The Spartans fell to 1-9 in the ICCAC and 4-18 overall. Complete details will appear in Tuesday’s Creston News Advertiser. Both Southwestern teams host Ellsworth Wednesday, starting with the women at 5:30 p.m.

The McKinley Park Festival kicked off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday July 31 with a kids fishing contest. More than 150 kids participated in the contest. A bike parade ensued at 1 p.m. The parade was judged and two boys and two girls received new bikes. The Bill Riley Talent Show took place at the bandshell at 2 p.m. First-place contestants advanced to perform at the Iowa State Fair. And at 10 p.m., the Creston Shooters delivered an 18-minute fireworks display.
