SWCC knocks off second-place Iowa Lakes

Four players scored in double figures as the Southwestern men secured a key conference victory Saturday over second-place Iowa Lakes, 84-66. The Lakers, ranked 16th in the nation in Division II, fell to 7-2 in the ICCAC and 18-6 overall. Southwestern improved to 4-5 in the conference and 14-9 overall. The Spartans’ loss to Ellsworth last week was costly in their effort to climb in the standings. Ellsworth is just ahead of Southwestern at 5-3 in the league, and DMACC, ranked 13 nationally, is in third by a half-game at 6-3. “Losing to Ellsworth hurt us because now we can’t tie DMACC with a win up there,” coach Jerry Drymon said. “Now we need help. But, we have five conference games left, and we can work on moving up.” The Spartans return home Saturday against NIACC (11-14, 2-7). “The first 25 minutes against Ellsworth, and this game (Iowa Lakes) have shown that we can get some things accomplished,” Drymon said. “We played really well Saturday. We got good guard play, and we got ourselves to the line to slow their momentum when they were coming back on us.” Drymon praised the defensive effort of Ryckey Harper, who helped defend 6-2 sophomore Cornelius Vines of Syracuse, N.Y., who was averaging 18 points a game. Vines managed 11 points while Harper led Southwestern with 18. Anthony Davis, 6-10 sophomore center, scored 16 points for Southwestern. Guards Tyler Raasch and Terrance Morgan scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. For the game, Southwestern again improved at the free throw line at 27-of-33. Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
