Second half propels Iowa Lakes past SWCC women

Iowa Lakes outscored Southwestern 38-25 in the second half as the Spartan women’s basketball team fell by a 74-53 score. “In the second half, we struggled offensively,” said Southwestern coach Buck Scheel. “We allowed a couple of their girls to get hot and knock down some shots.” CeCe Wright led the Spartans (4-20 overall, 1-11 ICCAC) with 24 points. In the loss, Southwestern was hurt by 31 turnovers. Up next for Southwestern is a road game at DMACC on Wednesday. The McKinley Park Festival kicked off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday July 31 with a kids fishing contest. More than 150 kids participated in the contest. A bike parade ensued at 1 p.m. The parade was judged and two boys and two girls received new bikes. The Bill Riley Talent Show took place at the bandshell at 2 p.m. First-place contestants advanced to perform at the Iowa State Fair. And at 10 p.m., the Creston Shooters delivered an 18-minute fireworks display.
