Spartan women fall to DMACC

BOONE — DMACC controlled Wednesday’s ICCAC league women’s basketball game against Southwestern as the Bears rolled to a 91-46 win. “We didn’t carry out our game plan,” said Spartan coach Buck Scheel. “They pressed like they did last time and we knew what we needed to do, and we didn’t carry out our actions.” In the meeting in Creston, the Spartans trailed by just three at halftime. This time around, DMACC built a 51-23 halftime advantage. Up next for Southwestern (4-21 overall, 1-12 ICCAC) is a home game against NIACC. The McKinley Park Festival kicked off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday July 31 with a kids fishing contest. More than 150 kids participated in the contest. A bike parade ensued at 1 p.m. The parade was judged and two boys and two girls received new bikes. The Bill Riley Talent Show took place at the bandshell at 2 p.m. First-place contestants advanced to perform at the Iowa State Fair. And at 10 p.m., the Creston Shooters delivered an 18-minute fireworks display.
