SWCC women end drought

A 15-game losing streak is over for the Southwestern women’s basketball Saturday after a 62-57 victory against NIACC. Tiffany Troutwine led the Spartans with 19 points while CeCe Wright added 15. Southwestern hadn’t won since a a 79-49 victory over the Graceland JV on Dec. 9, but nothing was set in stone at halftime. The Spartans led just 33-31. “It was very close at halftime and we were struggling offensively, but our defense pretty much kept us in the game,” said Spartans coach Buck Scheel. “That really gave us the opportunity in the second half to pull away.” The Spartans separated themselves in the second half thanks to NIACC foul trouble. The Trojans lost post players Madelyn Hauser and Katie Monson with eight minutes to go. NIACC has just nine players on their lineup. “They really like to block shots and leave their feet, so we had a chance to get those cheap fouls,” said Scheel. “Nothing was set yet, but we had mismatches late in the game. We had to go with a smaller lineup then on defense.” Up next for the Spartans (5-21 overall, 2-12 ICCAC) is a home game with conference leader Kirkwood on Wednesday. Game time is 5:30 p.m. SOUTHWESTERN (62) — Tiffany Troutwine 19, CeCe Wright 15, Kim Wolfer 14, Nicole Meyer 7, Anna Waymaster 5, Cortni Livengood 2. 3-point goals — 3 (Wright 2, Troutwine 1). Team fouls — 14. NIACC (57) — Tiffany Burgess 13, Caiti Findreng 10, Katie Monson 10, Krista Durr 9, Marin Thorson 8, Madelyn Hauser 7. 3-point goals — 2 (Findreng 2). Team fouls — 22. Fouled out — Hauser, Monson. SWCC — 33 62 NIACC — 31 57

Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
