The second-ranked Kirkwood women’s basketball team rolled to a 96-38 victory Wednesday night in ICCAC league action. The conference-leading Eagles (22-6 overall, 16-0 ICCAC) dominated the Spartans in the post, scoring 59 points between their five post players — 5-foot-10 Breann Hill, 5-foot-11 MyKenya Johnson, 6-foot Jayne Strand, 6-foot-2 El Sara Greer and 6-foot-3 Ashley Gorsh. But in the first meeting, Kirkwood made 11 3-pointers in a 126-43 win at Cedar Rapids. This time, around Southwestern coach Buck Scheel wanted to slow the Eagles down and limit their outside shots. “Our game plan was to take away their 3-point shooting,” said Scheel. “That killed us last time we played them. They only had four 3-pointers tonight and last time they had 11.” In Wednesday’s contest, the Spartans never led, but were down just a few points in the early minutes. A 10-0 Kirkwood run helped open up a 21-8 lead midway through the first quarter, followed by a 12-2 run at the end of the first half to take a 44-20 lead. In the second half, the Eagles used a 26-4 run to blow the game wide open. “We didn’t show up in the second half,” said Scheel. “Playing that kind of team, you probably know you’re not going to come back from 24 points at halftime, but I was very disappointed with our effort.” Kirkwood had five players score in double-figures for the win while Southwestern was led by 11 points from Kim Wolfer. Up next for Southwestern (5-22 overall, 2-13 ICCAC) is a road trip to Iowa Central on Saturday. As protesters swarm the streets of Iran against the recent re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the level of United States involvement is being questioned. Where do we belong in this effort?
Stay out of it. It's none of our business.
Support the protesters.
Be on the side of the Ahmadinejad supporters.
I don't know anything about it.
