Bedford’s Dalton on all-state list

DES MOINES — The Iowa Newspaper Association announced its 2008 All-State Girls Basketball teams Tuesday. In Class 1A, Exira’s Hallie Christofferson made the first team while teammate Molly Boylan was selected to the third team. Lindsey Hoehns and Crystal Davis of Twin Cedars were selected to all-state teams while Bedford’s Erica Dalton was name a third-team utility player. In Class 2A, Pleasantville’s Chelsea Thomas was a first team pick while Carroll Kuemper’s Tamie Drees was a third team selection. In Class 4A, Council Bluffs Lewis Central’s Mallory Husz was a second team pick. Jennifer Jorgensen of Southeast Webster-Grand was named Miss Basketball. Jorgensen led the state in scoring and assists with 30.4 points per game and 8.9 assists. The McKinley Park Festival kicked off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday July 31 with a kids fishing contest. More than 150 kids participated in the contest. A bike parade ensued at 1 p.m. The parade was judged and two boys and two girls received new bikes. The Bill Riley Talent Show took place at the bandshell at 2 p.m. First-place contestants advanced to perform at the Iowa State Fair. And at 10 p.m., the Creston Shooters delivered an 18-minute fireworks display.
