SWCC automotive students attend show

Southwestern Community College automotive instructors recently took a group of 36 students to the Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place Convention Complex in Chicago. This is the second year SWCC has taken students to the event. Jeff Sorensen, automotive repair technology instructor, said the field trip provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn and experience an exciting aspect of their industry. “Students are amazed to see the technology showcased,” said Sorensen. “It’s a wonderful experience for them. We talk about it in class, but to see it first-hand is invaluable.” The following students attended: Logan Connelly and David Downey, both of Afton; Coulton Honeck, Trevor Frederickson and Seth Foresman, all of Atlantic; Allison Moore of Casey; Michael Runyon of College Springs; Heath Victor, Adam Hedinger, Andrew Heaton and Jamie Bohanan, all of Corning; Summer Sistad, William Frey, Eric Stough, Aaron Paup, Joe Putzier, Robert Moses, Joey Ornelis and Patrick Pellman, all of Creston; Scott McDuff of Cumberland; Hugh Kale of Des Moines; Daryl Cowling of Garden Grove; Tommy Christensen and Tyler Bovee, both of Greenfield; Dakota Weeks and Michael Eivins, both of Macksburg; Jonathan Wallace of Mount Ayr; Sam Black of Murray; John Berg and Tyson Woods, both of Orient; Harold Hathaway of Patterson; Jesse Hamilton of Peru; Tim Pafford and Kobi Nowels, both of Red Oak; Jay Hamilton of Stanton and Logan Rice of Winterset. The Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America. This year marked the 100th edition of the show. During the event, the showroom floor is more than 1 million square feet and features more than 1,000 automobiles on display. Steve Schmalzried of Winterset is also an instructor for SWCC’s automotive repair technology program. SWCC offers automotive program options including automotive repair technology and collision repair/refinish.
