SWCC softball ends trip 4-4

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — After starting the first two days of the Snowbird Tournament with a 3-1 record, the Southwestern softball team ended the last two days with a 1-3 record. On Wednesday, the Spartans suffered a pair of losses — a 1-0 defeat to Mercer College (N.J.) and a 10-2 setback to Marshalltown. Tiffany Coon took the loss against Mercer while Ashtyn Neill suffered her first loss of the season against Marshalltown. On Thursday, Neill took the loss as the Spartans fell by an 11-4 score to Mohawk Valley (N.Y.) while Coon picked up the win in the circle with a 3-2 victory over Rochester (Minn.). “We wanted to win four games and now coming out of this tournament, I feel pretty good about the rest of the season,” said Southwestern softball coach Lindsay Stumpff. “Being outside and being able to play helped us the first couple of days and then maybe we got a little tired, but we came back in that last game.” Southwestern has its season-opener Monday at 3 p.m. against Central Columbus (Neb.) in doubleheader action.

Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
