Spartan golf team opens season

COUNCIL BLUFFS — Despite limited practice time, the Southwestern men’s golf team opened the season Sunday by placing ninth at the Reiver Spring Classic held at Bent Tree Golf Club. Former Creston golfer Doug North paced the Spartans with an 18-hole score of 88. Jack Bissell shot a 91 while Scott Van Ahn and Jake Boyd shot 102 and 107 for counting scores. “Improvement is on the horizon,” said Southwestern golf coach Ron “Fox” Clinton. “We hadn’t been outside at all and we played well. They gave it a good effort in the tough playing conditions.” Southwestern is off until a two-day meet Sunday and Monday at the Fort Dodge Country Club. Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
