Spartans split with North Central

TRENTON, Mo. — Playing games nine and 10 in the past five days, the Southwestern softball team split with North Central (Mo.) Monday in a doubleheader. The Spartans took a 7-1 loss in game one. Tiffany Coon took the loss after allowing eight hits and two walks. Southwestern had just four hits in the game, but committed three errors. Cortni Livengood was 2-for-3 at the plate while Ashtyn Neill and Brittney Auten each had doubles. “The first game we did some switching around and had some people playing some different places,” said Southwestern coach Lindsay Stumpff. “The chemistry was working a lot better.” And it started to show in the second game. The Spartans used a three-run sixth inning to pull out a 5-3 victory in game two. Southwestern belted out 10 hits in the win, including 2-for-4 efforts from Tiffany Troutwine, Angie Hawkins and Tiffany Jeanes. Four Spartans had an RBI in the win. “We only had one error in that game and we were executing the little things,” said Stumpff. “We were executing bunts, picking up the signs and hitting the ball. The girls needed that win to boost their confidence.” Ashtyn Neill picked up the win for Southwestern after allowing seven hits and one walk. The Spartans (8-12 overall) are back on the road today, traveling to Muscatine for a 2 p.m. doubleheader. Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
