Spartan golf team sees improvement

DES MOINES — The Southwestern men’s golf team shaved 19 strokes off its first meet Tuesday the Simpson Spring Invite held at Blank Golf Course. “We had some kids make some good moves,” said Southwestern coach Ron “Fox” Clinton. “Scott Van Ahn cut 14 strokes off. He was the leader in the clubhouse yesterday. That was good to see.” The Spartans shot a 388 in the season-opening meet in Council Bluffs before carding a 367 Tuesday. Van Ahn, a native of Osceola, led the team with an 18-hole score of 88. Jack Bissell came in next for the Spartans with a 90 while teammates Doug North and Jon Peasley were also counting scores with a 94 and 95. Coe won the team title with a 319, edging Simpson by one stroke. The Spartans are next in action Sunday and Monday in the Viking Spring Invite at the Fort Dodge Country Club. Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
