Ranked Muscatine sweeps Southwestern

MUSCATINE — No. 16-ranked Muscatine took a sweep of the Southwestern softball team Tuesday in ICCAC action. Muscatine, one of three teams ranked in the top-20, used a strong offensive effort to gain the sweep. The Cardinals pounded out 21 hits between the two games while allowing just six Southwestern singles. “Our offense was lacking,” said Southwestern coach Lindsay Stumpff. “I don’t want to take anything away from Muscatine, but we just couldn’t get it done.” Muscatine came away with an 8-0 win in game one, scoring in every inning to take the five-inning win. Tiffany Jeanes led the Spartans by going 2-for-2 at the plate. “In the first game, we didn’t have hardly any errors, but pitching, we couldn’t find our spots,” said Stumpff. “They were going to tag anything that was close to the plate because they’re so disciplined. Offensively we struggled and we’re not disciplined at the plate.” In game two, the Spartans had just two hits while Muscatine pitcher Jessica Savage struck out six batters. Southwestern was hurt by four fielding errors. Up next for Southwestern (8-14 overall, 1-9 ICCAC) is a home doubleheader with Iowa Lakes. Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
