Spartans struggle at Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE — Southwestern’s golf team placed 17th at the two-day Viking Golf Classic held at the Fort Dodge Country Club. The Spartans shot a two-day score of 741, with Doug North leading the team with a combined score of 169. North shot a 79 on day one, but carded a 90 Monday. Jack Bissell (177), Scott Van Ahn (195) and Jake Boyd (210) were also counting scores for Southwestern. “It’s a nice course and it can be a little tight — particularly if you want to hook the ball,” said Southwestern coach Ron “Fox” Clinton. “There are lots of trees out there. It was a good meet — the competition was really good.” Grand View, the host school for the meet, edged Dakota Wesleyan by one stroke for the team title. Southwestern is back in action Thursday at the Marshalltown Invite, which will be held at Lincoln Valley Golf Course near State Center. Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
