No. 5 Iowa Central sweeps Southwestern

FORT DODGE — Fifth-ranked Iowa Central extended its winning streak to nine games with a sweep of Southwestern’s softball team Sunday. Iowa Central picked up a 9-1 six-inning win in game one while the Tritons pounded out 18 hits in a game-two 15-5 five-inning victory. In the two games, Iowa Central combined for 34 hits to Southwestern’s 13. In game one, the Spartans didn’t get on the scoreboard until the seventh inning. By that point, Iowa Central had already put up seven runs on the scoreboard. Ashtyn Neill took the loss in game one. In game two, after each team scored a run in the first inning, Iowa Central scored 11 runs in the next two innings to build a 12-3 lead heading into the fourth inning. Former Murray pitcher Marla Jackson picked up the win, improving to 11-3 overall on the season for the Tritons. Since starting the season 6-6 overall, Southwestern has managed just a 2-14 record. The Spartans (8-20 overall) continue their road trip today at Kirkwood, followed by a road doubleheader at Central Columbus (Neb.) Tuesday. Southwestern hosts Muscatine and North Central (Mo.)
