Spartan golf competes at Okoboji

OKOBOJI — The Southwestern golf team played at the Iowa Lakes Invite Tuesday, held at Brooks Golf Club. Doug North led the team by shooting an 80 while Scott Van Ahn carded a 98. Jake Boyd (100) and Jack Bissell (104) were also counting scores. Team results were not available as of press time. IOWA LAKES INVITE APRIL 22 Southwestern (382) — Doug North 39-41 — 80; Scott Van Ahn 46-52 — 98; Jake Boyd 49-51 — 100; Jack Bissell 47-57 — 104; Jon Peasley 55-51 — 106.

McKinley Park Festival
The McKinley Park Festival kicked off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday July 31 with a kids fishing contest. More than 150 kids participated in the contest. A bike parade ensued at 1 p.m. The parade was judged and two boys and two girls received new bikes. The Bill Riley Talent Show took place at the bandshell at 2 p.m. First-place contestants advanced to perform at the Iowa State Fair. And at 10 p.m., the Creston Shooters delivered an 18-minute fireworks display.
