VanAhn shoots 81 at tourney

STATE CENTER — Sophomore Scott VanAhn of Osceola shot an 81 and Doug North had an 86 to lead Southwestern Community College in the Marshalltown men’s invitational meet Tuesday. The Spartans shot a 358 for seventh place in the event. Jake Boyd shot a season-best 93 for the Spartans. Southwestern competes in the Region XI tournament Saturday and Sunday at the Fort Dodge County Club. Marshalltown Men’s Invitational At State Center Team scoring — 1. Kirkwood 293; 2. Exira defeats Mount Ayr for 1A state championship
DES MOINES — On a fourth-quarter buzzer-beater, the Exira Vikettes defeated Mount Ayr in the Class 1A state championship game March 5 at Wells Fargo Arena. Among those attending the game was Peggy Whitson, NASA chief of astronauts and a Mount Ayr graduate.
