Hawks win CEDAR RAPIDS — Former Lewis Central player Justin Toole of Iowa went 5-for-5 at the plate to extend his hitting streak to 16 games in leading Iowa to a 10-6 victory over Northern Iowa in the fifth annual Corridor Classic Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Wes Freie hit a three-run homer to help Iowa (17-25) take a 7-0 lead in the first inning in front of a crowd of 1,666. The Panthers (24-15) trimmed the lead with a four-run eighth inning. AD search CEDAR FALLS (AP) — Northern Iowa has narrowed its list of athletic director candidates to five. The list includes Sacramento State athletic director Terry Wanless, Wake Forest senior associate A.D. Barbara Walker and Cincinnati senior associate A.D. Michael Waddell. Other candidates include Northern Illinois’ Glen Krupica and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union executive A.D. Troy Dannen. Each will make campus visits and give public presentations beginning next week. Northern Iowa has been without a permanent athletic director since January, when Rick Hartzell resigned over a contract dispute. Football coach Mark Farley has been serving as the interim athletic director. ISU coach leaves AMES (AP) — Iowa State assistant basketball coach Jean Prioleau has joined the staff at Texas Christian. Prioleau (PRE’-a-loo) spent two seasons at Iowa State under coach Greg McDermott and is credited with helping the Cyclones sign star Wesley Johnson. He came to Iowa State after one season at Marquette and five at Wichita State. TCU coach Jim Christian took over the helm after leaving Kent State last month. He says he is happy to have someone with Prioleau’s reputation for recruiting in the state of Texas on his staff.

DES MOINES — On a fourth-quarter buzzer-beater, the Exira Vikettes defeated Mount Ayr in the Class 1A state championship game March 5 at Wells Fargo Arena. Among those attending the game was Peggy Whitson, NASA chief of astronauts and a Mount Ayr graduate.
