Weather causes problems for second time this week

CrestonÕs rescheduled varsity game tonight at Red Oak has been postponed to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Atlantic, followed by the makeup game against Atlantic at 7 p.m.

After Thursday’s rain, the schedule has gotten considerably tight for most area baseball and softball teams. All area games for Thursday were rained out. Some are being rescheduled while others are just being scrapped all together. Creston softball For the Creston softball team, the schedule has gotten jam-packed. After Saturday’s Mount Ayr Classic, the Panthers will play seven conference games in a span of four days. On Monday, Creston will travel to Red Oak for a single varsity game starting at 1 p.m. Monday night, Creston will travel back home to face Clarinda in junior varsity and varsity action starting at 5:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Creston will travel to Atlantic for a varsity doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. That night, the Panthers will be back at home for a single varsity game with Glenwood starting at 7 p.m. Creston baseball Creston’s rescheduled game tonight at Red Oak was postponed again. It will be held 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Atlantic, followed by the makeup game against Atlantic at 7 p.m., varsity only. After Saturday’s Brent Prange Classic in Ankeny, the Panthers will play Clarinda on Monday and Glenwood on Tuesday as regularly scheduled. The Panthers come back home Thursday for a doubleheader with Council Bluffs Lewis Central. Diagonal at M-U Thursday’s Bluegrass Conference softball game between Diagonal and Moulton-Udell has been rescheduled for Monday at 6 p.m. in Moulton. East Union at Corning Thursday’s Pride of Iowa Conference baseball matchup between East Union and Corning will be played July 3. Two five-inning varsity games will be played in Afton. As for the softball doubleheader scheduled for Thursday, that has been canceled. Corning’s dedication of its softball field in honor Don Kenworthy has been rescheduled for tonight, weather permitting. Corning hosts Wayne at 6 p.m., with the dedication starting at 5:30 p.m. Lamoni at Murray Thursday’s non-conference baseball and softball games between Lamoni and Murray have been canceled. Lenox at Bedford Thursday’s baseball and softball games between Bedford and Lenox have been moved to July 1 and July 3. On July 1, Lenox’s softball team will play Bedford at 6 p.m. At 8 p.m., Lenox will host Corning. On July 3, Lenox will host Bedford in baseball. Lenox coach Steve Westphal said that this matchup may turn into a varsity doubleheader if a conference title is at stake. As of today, it is scheduled as a junior varsity game starting at 6 p.m., with varsity to follow. NV at Mount Ayr Nodaway Valley and Mount Ayr’s baseball and softball games for Thursday have been canceled. O-M at Iowa Christian Orient-Macksburg and Iowa Christian will makeup Thursday’s conference baseball game tonight at Iowa Christian starting at 6 p.m. If weather causes problems tonight, the game will be played Saturday.

The McKinley Park Festival kicked off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday July 31 with a kids fishing contest. More than 150 kids participated in the contest. A bike parade ensued at 1 p.m. The parade was judged and two boys and two girls received new bikes. The Bill Riley Talent Show took place at the bandshell at 2 p.m. First-place contestants advanced to perform at the Iowa State Fair. And at 10 p.m., the Creston Shooters delivered an 18-minute fireworks display.
