Dubuque man sent to prison for bankruptcy fraud
CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) — A Dubuque businessman will soon begin serving a 10-year prison sentence for bankruptcy fraud.
Prosecutors say it’s the longest sentence ever imposed for that crime in federal court in Cedar Rapids.
Roger Waldner pleaded guilty to two counts of lying to creditors in a meeting about the banktruptcy of H & W Motor Express, a Dubuque-based privately held trucking company.
Prosecutors say 45-year-old Waldner transferred more than $1 million to the other companies he controlled before sending the company into bankruptcy.
Waldner is required to pay $1.7 million in restitution.
After a sentencing hearing on Monday, he was ordered detained by the U.S. Marshal until he could be tranported to a federal prison.
