Raiders roll in regular season finale

LAMONI — Mount Ayr scored 55 points in the first half as the Raiders ended the regular season with a 55-12 victory over Central Decatur at Graceland University Thursday night. “Our focus was really good with the short turnaround,” said Mount Ayr co-coach Delwyn Showalter. “We came out and took care of business. Offense, defense and special teams were operating very efficiently.” The Raiders jumped on the Cardinals early, scoring the first 34 points of the game. David Showalter threw for three touchdowns as he was a very efficient 7-of-8 for 157 yards. Jordan Stewart, Zach Robinson and Mitch Grose each had two touchdowns as well, with the Raiders collecting 191 yards of total rushing. Defensively, Mount Ayr collected six sacks for the game, with Grose and Stewart each collecting two. Robinson also had an interception in the game. Ending in second-place for Class 1A District 6, Mount Ayr (8-1, 6-1 District 6) will await its substate opponent for Wednesday’s game. Those pairings will be released tonight or early Saturday morning. Depending on the direction District 6 will travel, Mount Ayr could face one of three teams — Eddyville-Blakesburg in District 5, Manson Northwest Webster in District 7 or Logan-Magnolia in District 8. Either way, the Raiders will be hosting a substate playoff game Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Mount Ayr 55, Central Decatur 12 SCORING SUMMARY First Quarter MA — Jordan Stewart 1 run (Korey Beaman kick), 9:58 MA — Stewart 38 pass from David Showalter (Beaman kick), 7:58 MA — Zach Robinson 34 punt return (kick failed), 6:31 MA — Robinson 26 pass from Showalter (Beaman kick), 2:37 Second Quarter MA — Mitch Grose 1 run (Beaman kick), 10:58 CD — Connor Christensen 50 pass from Preston Pedersen (pass failed), 8:49 MA — Grose 21 pass from Showalter (Beaman kick), 6:31 MA — Cade Lambson 6 run (Beaman kick), 3:58 MA — Matt Jones 18 run (Beaman kick), 2:16 Fourth Quarter CD — Wyatt Rumley 67 pass from Pedersen (kick failed), 1:15 INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS RUSHING — CD: Trevor Wilson 12-39; Andy Akers 3-17; Wyatt Rumley 4-6; Preston Pedersen 11-(-14). Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
