Prep football finals on TV

CEDAR FALLS — High school football championship games in all classes Friday and Saturday will be televised statewide, in this region on channel KCWI-23 of Des Moines on Dish TV and DirectTV, and channel 9 on local Mediacom cable systems. The schedule is Eight-Man at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Lenox (12-1) vs. Armstrong-Ringsted (12-1); Class A at 2 p.m. Friday, North Tama (13-0) vs. Southern Cal (Lake City) (12-1); Class 4A at 7 p.m. Friday, Cedar Falls (12-1) vs. West Des Moines Valley (13-0); Class 1A at 10 a.m. Saturday, Emmetsburg (13-0) vs. West Lyon, Inwood (12-1); Class 2A at 1 p.m. Saturday, Solon (13-0) vs. Central Lyon/George-Little Rock (13-0); and Class 3A at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sioux City Heelan (13-0) vs. Decorah (13-0), 4 p.m. Saturday. All games are at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

The McKinley Park Festival kicked off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday July 31 with a kids fishing contest. More than 150 kids participated in the contest. A bike parade ensued at 1 p.m. The parade was judged and two boys and two girls received new bikes. The Bill Riley Talent Show took place at the bandshell at 2 p.m. First-place contestants advanced to perform at the Iowa State Fair. And at 10 p.m., the Creston Shooters delivered an 18-minute fireworks display.

Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
