Shirley Wright, 89, of Creston, died June 24, 2009, at Greater Regional Hospice Home.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, at the United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Gubser will officiate. Burial will be in Chariton Cemetery at a later date. No visitation is planned.

Exira defeats Mount Ayr for 1A state championship
DES MOINES — On a fourth-quarter buzzer-beater, the Exira Vikettes defeated Mount Ayr in the Class 1A state championship game March 5 at Wells Fargo Arena. Among those attending the game was Peggy Whitson, NASA chief of astronauts and a Mount Ayr graduate.
