Marilyn Imming — Waukee

Marilyn Louise (Kapsch) Imming, 71, of Waukee, died June 27, 2009, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston from lung cancer.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee. Graveside and committal services will be held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fonda. Open visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. today, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee or Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Iles Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn Louise Imming was born in July 1, 1937, in Jolly.

Marilyn attended school in Fonda and graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in 1955.

On Nov. 12, 1955, Marilyn married Herb Imming in Fonda. 

Marilyn and Herb lived on a farm just outside of Fonda. In 1994, they retired from farming and moved to Waukee to be closer to family.

Marilyn and Herb managed Candle Ridge Apartments in Waukee. She worked as head cook and daycare provider at The Children’s Place daycare center until January 2007. She then worked as a substitute in the school lunch program for Waukee School District and volunteered many hours for the local food pantry and St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee.

Survivors include her daughters, Debra (husband Larry) Peterson of Creston, Rebecca (husband Julio) Jimenez of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Kate (husband Brian) Boettcher and Cindy (husband John) McCartan, all of Waukee and grandchildren, Brett and Keith Peterson, Brandon Jimenez, Josh, Nate and Brittany Boettcher and Daniel and Madalyn McCartan.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband and sister Sr. Marilyn Kapsch.

The McKinley Park Festival kicked off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday July 31 with a kids fishing contest. More than 150 kids participated in the contest. A bike parade ensued at 1 p.m. The parade was judged and two boys and two girls received new bikes. The Bill Riley Talent Show took place at the bandshell at 2 p.m. First-place contestants advanced to perform at the Iowa State Fair. And at 10 p.m., the Creston Shooters delivered an 18-minute fireworks display.
