Maxine Recknor, 86, of Creston, died July 2, 2009, at Crest Haven Care Centre. 

Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 6, at Powers Funeral Home, junction Highways 34 and 25. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Exira defeats Mount Ayr for 1A state championship
DES MOINES — On a fourth-quarter buzzer-beater, the Exira Vikettes defeated Mount Ayr in the Class 1A state championship game March 5 at Wells Fargo Arena. Among those attending the game was Peggy Whitson, NASA chief of astronauts and a Mount Ayr graduate.
