Municipal elections are being held throughout the region Tuesday, with polls open noon to 8 p.m. in most locations.

There are some polling sites open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (see below).

No races in Creston are contested, which is the case in most communities in the area. However, there are city council races contested in Corning, Diagonal, Clearfield, Prescott and Murray, and contested mayoral races in Corning and Kellerton. A write-in candidacy for mayor in Orient has emerged for Doug Davidson. City councilman Michael Cooley is the only candidate on the ballot for mayor.

Also, a referendum is on the ballot for an expanded utility board in Lenox.

Absentee ballots can be cast at county auditor’s offices until 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The City Council Ward 2 race involves incumbent Cynthia Peterson and challenger Kenneth Mallas. Vying for council-at-large are Richard Blazek and Aaron Anderson.

Prescott City Hall is the polling site for Prescott voters. Mick Gray and Gary Riley are running to fill a council vacancy, while Mary Brandt, Sherry S. Gray and Douglas M. Privett are vying for two council positions.

Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
