David L. Ross, 71, of Shannon City, died Feb. 7, 2010, at Greater Regional Medical Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in his name.

Exira defeats Mount Ayr for 1A state championship
DES MOINES — On a fourth-quarter buzzer-beater, the Exira Vikettes defeated Mount Ayr in the Class 1A state championship game March 5 at Wells Fargo Arena. Among those attending the game was Peggy Whitson, NASA chief of astronauts and a Mount Ayr graduate.
