Jeffrey Scott Schaefer, 21, 905 S. Cherry St., was charged 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on two Union County warrants for third-degree sexual abuse.
According to a Union County Sheriff report, a citizen reported on Jan. 7 a child had been assaulted. Officers interviewed the child and confirmed the child was born prior to 1999. The child reported that during the evening of Oct. 15, she was with Schaefer. Schaefer, who is more than four years older than the child, engaged in inappropriate contact with the child and her genitals. Officers obtained additional statements which were consistent with and corroborated the child's report of the incident.
Schaefer is being held on $20,000 bond.
