I write this column from the front seats of a yellow school bus. We're on our way back from our first baseball game of the season. I can hear some of our players behind me talking about getting our first victory. Others are playing games on their cell phones, talking to girls or sending tweets.

Last summer I survived the Southern Prairie YMCA's boot camp taught by Dave and Cena Danielson. It was during the middle of the blistering drought, and I remember doing sit ups and abdominal work, and it being so dry the grass pricked your skin like a cactus.
