AFTON — Not long into the 2010 football season, East Union found itself in a 33-0 hole against Fremont Mills (Tabor). The Knights had put five touchdowns on the board in a little more than a quarter and a half of football.
Southwestern Community College cross country head coach could not have been more pleased with the first race of the season for the Spartan harriers. Huntington said the team "exceeded expectations by a long ways" at a Region XI Time Trial held Saturday at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs.

The Creston volleyball team won the opening set of the season Thursday night at home, but dropped the next three against Red Oak in a Hawkeye 10 Conference loss.

The McKinley Park Festival kicked off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday July 31 with a kids fishing contest. More than 150 kids participated in the contest. A bike parade ensued at 1 p.m. The parade was judged and two boys and two girls received new bikes. The Bill Riley Talent Show took place at the bandshell at 2 p.m. First-place contestants advanced to perform at the Iowa State Fair. And at 10 p.m., the Creston Shooters delivered an 18-minute fireworks display.
